Welcome to the planning Wiki for the Human Survival Project.

This page hosts a guide to the types of pages existing on the wiki, and the working definition of an existential risk.

What is an Existential Risk?

Existential risk – A risk wherein an adverse outcome would either annihilate Earth-originating intelligent life or permanently and drastically curtail its potential.

Wiki Contents

This wiki has 6 kinds of pages. Each one has its own searchable namespace and talk page.

  • 1 - Problems: Existential risks. This page should be about simply the issue and it's risks; the other pages will be for mitigation or solutions. If you aren't sure what constitutes an existential risk, here is a great source: [1]
  • 2 - Solutions: Solutions or partial solutions to problems. Things we can do to overcome stated problems. These detail the causes for the problem and how to eliminate or avoid them.
  • 3 - Tech: Implementation paths to bring the solution to reality. Solutions can often happen in different ways, and technology moves quickly. Tech pages are about how to achieve the outcome written as a solution.
  • 4 - Style: Pages about how to write here, what the structure looks like, templates, etc
  • 5 - Gov: Voting and organization pages. Vote on solutions to work on as a group, and pages to help with our own self governance, guidelines on how to vote and break ties, best practices, etc.
  • 6 - Main: If your page doesn't have a "Namespace:" prefix before the title, it is in the main namespace. This is for pages about the project itself. Most of these probably belong on the website instead of here. This is not a catch-all for homeless topics that followed you home and have really cute fur.

The interesting stuff happens in Problems, Solutions, and Tech areas. Problems are linked to Solutions that resolve them, and Solutions link to Tech which can bring that solution to reality. For example: Problem: Deadly asteroid impact -> Solution: Gravitational Deflection -> Tech: Orbiting a satellite around the asteroid

A single problem might be linked to many possible solutions, and each solution may be linked to many kinds of tech to bring it about.
